We miss you! If you’re like us, you’re craving an opportunity to see and hear live performers!

On Saturday evening Sept 19, Lakewood invites you to enjoy some music and entertainment on the lawn at Lakewood Center for the Arts. You’ll be entertained by excerpts from a musical revue entitled, Here’s to Karen, an original show that in its full format was originally scheduled for late spring at Lakewood before COVID-19 emerged. The revue celebrates the music of Karen Carpenter, a wonderful singer who gave us so much pleasure and left us much too soon.  We hope to stage the full version of Here’s to Karen on our Side Door stage in the future!  In the meantime, come enjoy a selection of amazing music!

Barbara Ayars and Julie Hoodenpyl share the stage vocally, to bring the best of Karen’s treasures to light, along with a few obscure treats. They are joined by Bo Ayars on keys, Dennis Caiazza on bass,

Added guests for Sept 19 include songstress Courtney Freed and piano virtuoso David Saffert who will delight you with an array of classics from the Great American Songbook. Pre-quarantine, Courtney and David spent a lot of time performing around Portland and hosting a piano bar at Corkscrew Wine Bar in Sellwood, featuring some of Portland’s most beloved singers! You might hear a Queen tune or two from Courtney’s one-woman tribute to Freddie Mercury, called Mercury Rising.

Lakewood on the Lawn is a low-key event and participants are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and to respect all current health code requirements regarding social distancing and masks.

Please plan to Bring Your Own – drinks and treats, but as a special amenity, snack packs will be available for pre-order and pick up at Nicoletta’s Table across the street, www.nicolettastable.com. Orders need to be placed by Thursday, noon September 17.

This event is free but donations are encouraged to support other outdoor events and programs at Lakewood.
