Memorial Gathering
for playwright and author Monte Merrick
planned for July 11, 2015 at 3:00 PM

Monte L. Merrick was an accomplished and successful playwright, novelist and screenwriter. His screen credits include writing such hit films as Memphis Belle, 8 Seconds, and Mr. Baseball. His plays were produced off-Broadway and in theaters across the country; they include Open Heart and A Hell of a Town. He was a graduate of Clackamas High School, Lewis & Clark College in Portland and holds a master’s degree in theater from the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Monte Merrick in Two Gentlemen of VeronaAt Lakewood Theatre Company, Monte was a cast member in The Entertainer (1970), The Happy Time (1970), the musical version of Two Gentlemen of Verona (1976) and the Fertile Ground Festival reading of Rain! The Musical (2012). He also was playwright for the Lakewood production of A Pair of Hearts (1983).

Monte was born on October 6, 1949 in Portland, Oregon and died on March 24, 2015 in Santa Monica, California.

There will be a memorial gathering in celebration of Monte’s life and talents on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 3:00 pm on the Headlee Mainstage, Lakewood Center for the Arts. Reception to follow.

Lakewood Center for the Arts is located at 368 South State Street in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Parking is free. All are welcome to attend and invited to share a story or memory of Monte and his many gifts.
