On Monday, June 30, 2014, Lakewood Theatre Company/Lakewood Center for the Arts held its annual meeting and OTAS (Oregon Theatrical Awards Society) presentation at the Lakewood Center to celebrate the closing of its 61st season of plays and its 43rd annual OTAS Awards. Emcee for the evening was Alan Shearman, a frequent Lakewood stage director and past OTAS award winner.

In the business/annual meeting earlier on June 30th, President Michelle Dorman recognized and thanked retiring board members Rocky Johnson, Barbara Kehoe and Lois Mitchell for their many years of service to Lakewood.
President Michelle Dorman updated the membership about the recent progress in constructing the new artist training facility building at Lakewood. This project has completed the review process with the City and permits have been secured. Lakewood Development Director Peter Jurney noted that fundraising has been proceeding rapidly and enjoined the audience to help complete the campaign so that construction can begin in the spring. The new building, a component of Lakewood’s renovation project entitled Phase One, will be built in a portion of the playground area adjacent to the current north wing of the Center. It is designed to enhance educational opportunities for artists and provide space for production rehearsals. Executive Director Andrew Edwards proudly announced that the board of directors unanimously decided to name the new building in honor of the Bill & Barbara Warner family for their many years of leadership and support of Lakewood and its programs. It will be known as Warner Hall.
Bill and Barbara Warner have been strong supporters of, and contributors to, Lakewood Center for many years. Barbara has been an active volunteer with Lakewood Associates, Lakewood’s auxiliary; and Bill has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1994. In addition to making significant financial contributions to Lakewood over the years, Bill and Barbara have actively participated in leading fund drives for the Stagehouse and other projects, including the current Capital Campaign for the new rehearsal hall and artist training facility.
In official business, the non-profit organization elected Don Irving as President and Don Plumb as Treasurer for one-year terms. Members elected to serve three-year board terms were Fred Baldwin, Jeanne Denton, Kelly Giampa, Jerry Koll, Dr. Ricky Korach and Bill Warner. For a one-year term, Tina Cauthorn was elected.

The O.T.A.S. Story
The O.T.A.S. Awards are given each year to honor those involved in productions at Lakewood Theatre Company. They originated in 1971.
Nominees for the O.T.A.S. Awards (Oregon Theatrical Awards Society) are judged by a panel of judges who attend all Lakewood Theatre Company shows. Performers are judged on role conception, vocal/physical interplay and performance impact on the audience. Directors are judged on conception and interpretation of the play, use of performers as groups and overall impact. All Lakewood Theatre Company members receive ballots. Ballots are tabulated by Jerry R. Woods, Attorney at Law.
