You Are The Song
This fall, six brave students from Harmony Academy took part in the pilot season of You Are The Song! Throughout the last 8 weeks, every one of them blew us away with their willingness to be vulnerable and support each other through the process.
YOU ARE THE SONG is an 8-week "Songwriting Experience" created by Stephanie Schneiderman, that walks students through the process of lyric writing, melody composition, song arrangement, recording, performing and finally - releasing an original song! Accessible to non-musicians and musicians alike, the purpose of the course is to expand courage, creativity and self-expression, and in doing so - begin to discover and trust one's own sensibilities as a songwriter.
The goal is to reveal yourself to yourself - in a song.

Stephanie Schneiderman is an award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and activist - and a 4th generation Oregonian. Whether pursuing her prolific work as a solo artist (9 albums), playing drums for all-star roots act Swan Sovereign (formerly Dirty Martini), stepping on stage in the musical The Full Monty, organizing a humanitarian concert series for refugees in Uganda (raising over $50k) or producing the soundtrack for 3 popular children's DVD's (Oy Baby, That Baby), Schneiderman is one of the most diversely talented artists the Pacific NW has to offer. Starting her solo career with a coveted spot in the Lilith Fair, she received extensive NW radio play, and earned placements in many films / primetime TV shows. She went on to tour internationally & share the stage with some of the nation's top touring acts - from Aimee Mann to Hall & Oates, Sarah McLachlan and Train. Her newest album, Crossfire, combines her past sonic explorations - folk, Americana & trip-hop into a beautifully dark & deeply introspective album that celebrates her maiden voyage as self-producer.

Lakewood Center for the Arts inspires a love of theater and the arts through its Youth Outreach Program, launched in 2018. This initiative provides underserved youth with access to arts education and participation, fostering inclusion, collaboration, and meaningful experiences year-round in a welcoming, diverse environment.
The goal of the Youth Outreach Program is to create opportunities for youth in the greater Portland area to participate, both as artists and audience, in all that Lakewood has to offer. Lakewood strives to bring opportunities to the underserved youth in the region, whom, because of geographic, socio-economic, cultural or language barriers have limited access to arts education.
