Angel Fund $5,000
An annual fund that is established to:
(1) provide free tickets to school children who are studying a relevant period in history and
(2) provide discounts for young people taking classes at Lakewood.
- Lakewood’s Executive Producer Steve Knox has been working with local high school teachers and Clackamas Community College to encourage students to learn history through the performing arts.
- Summer programs are very popular with families. Those with several children have difficult decisions to make. Lakewood receives many requests from families for class discounts; however, we also need to assure the class teachers of a reasonable return for their involvement.
Lakewood’s education program’s purpose is to encourage creative thinking, art appreciation, personal growth, interpersonal skills, and cultural awareness within the context of the student’s personal and professional goals. Having an Angel Scholarship Fund would make the scholarship process more facilitative of participation.
Emerging & Aspiring Talent $10,000
Supports Fertile Ground productions and the Young Playwrights Program at Lakewood. In the 2016-2017 season, Lakewood launched the Young Playwrights Program through which young, aspiring playwrights are mentored by a play director and established playwrights in a three-month process. At the conclusion of the three months, each playwright stages one performance with professional actors on the Lakewood Mainstage before an audience. Lakewood participates in the greater Portland Fertile Ground shows, usually hosting three or four aspiring playwrights with one performance each. Costs associated with “hosting” are technical support and box office. The Young Playwrights Program is scheduled to conclude during the time of the Fertile Ground shows so that they benefit from the combined publicity and audience share.
