LAKEWOOD THEATRE COMPANY PRESENTS A NEW MUSICAL THEATRE MOTIVATIONAL MASTER CLASS

Lakewood Theatre Company debuts a new one-day only workshop to end its summer session with a bang! Come experience a Motivational Master Class in musical theatre consisting of song, dance, and stories from two of Broadway’s most celebrated and talented stars. It’s a full day workshop filled with audition technique, dance, song selection and repertoire, song performance, professional guidance and intimate interaction to prepare any performer interested in making a life-long career in the world of entertainment!

Jenny Lynn Suckling (Chicago, The Producers, Fosse, Side Show), and Tony Nominated Actor J. Robert Spencer (Pulitzer Prize-Winning Next to Normal and Original Tony Award-Winning Jersey Boys) team up to share their experiences and talents from over 25 years on Broadway and stages all over the world. After performing in countless Broadway shows, this talented couple has geared up to share their knowledge and to help sharpen the tools that are needed in preparing for auditions AND for performances in the world of the performing arts. The Musical Theatre Motivational Master Class will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 10 AM – 4 PM at the Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego. The workshop is open to those ages 16 – adult and is recommended for those with some prior acting experience. The registration fee is $160. About the Instructors

Jenny Lynn Suckling spent over 15 years of her life on the Broadway Stage, starting with the Original Cast of Chicago, Side Show, Fosse, as Ulla in The Producers, Dolly Tate in Annie Get Your Gun, Magda in Dance of The Vam­pires, and Sandra in All Shook Up. Her training is exten­sive in all styles. She was fortunate to have worked with the great Gwen Verdon in the process of conceptualizing the show Fosse. Jenny has also worked alongside such great choreographers as Ann Reinking, Chet Walker, Susan Stroman, Christopher d‘Amboise, Sergio Trujilo, Jeff Calhoun, Brenda Buffalino and Tommy Tune. As a choreographer, Jenny choreographed the critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway show Dusty: The Life of Dusty Springfield and The Wizard of Oz (Salem Oregon’s Historic Grand Theatre). Her dance training started at the Oregon Ballet Company and the Pacific Ballet Company. Later, she joined the Jefferson Dance Company in Portland Oregon, and was a member of the Oregon State University Modern Dance Company, which was founded by her aunt Betty Lynd Thompson, who was also the founder of the Oregon State chapter of Orchesis, the modern dance honorary.

J. Robert Spencer is best known as Broadway’s origi­nal Nick Massi in the Tony Award and Grammy Award-winning show Jersey Boys. He next originated the role of Dan Goodman in the critically-acclaimed and Pu­litzer Prize-winning Broadway musical Next To Normal. His performance earned him a 2008-2009 Helen Hayes Award Nomination, and a 2008-2009 Tony Award Nom­ination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical. He was also nominated in 2008-2009 for a Mid­west Emmy Award for Best On-Camera Performance by a Leading Actor for his work on the Sony and PBS Concert production of Handel’s Messiah Rocks with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops. As a voiceover artist, he has performed voices for two Japanese animated features: Nightmare Campus and the lead role of Sieta in the critically-acclaimed and award-winning Grave of the Fireflies. For the last eight years, he has performed in over 700 concerts all over the world with his singing group, “The Midtown Men – Four Original Stars from Broadway’s Jersey Boys”. The group has toured all over the US, Italy, Canada, Mexico City and Beijing. The Midtown Men have produced and recorded several albums, including a Christmas single written and produced by Stevie Van Zandt. The group recently filmed their concert and a documentary for PBS titled, The Midtown Men – Live in Concert. J. Robert is the 2009 recipient of an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from Shenandoah University.
