This offering will be an outstanding opportunity to hear from some of the nation’s leading specialists discussing critical issues in health and medicine. Topics include the brain, cancer, bone health and the heart. Providence Health & Services has coordinated and funded the event and the Bank of Oswego and the Lake Oswego Adult Communty Center Foundation are sponsors.
In tandem with the series, an art exhibit celebrating breast cancer awareness is on loan from Medline is in the Entryway Gallery at Lakewood. Click here for information on this exhibit.
LECTURE SERIES DETAILS:
May 9, 2011 – 7:00 PM – THE BRAIN AND PARKINSON’S DISEASE
Doctor Richard Rosenbaum will open the series on May 9th speaking about the Brain and Parkinson’s Disease. Doctor Rosenbaum is one on the top neurologists in the country and is the author of “Understanding Parkinson’s Disease; A Personal and Professional View.” He currently serves as the Medical Director of the Parkinson’s Center for the Providence Brain Institute.
May 16, 2011 – 7:00 PM – ORAL CANCER AND MELANOMA
Dr. Walter Urba, a leading cancer specialist will speak on May 16th. His work in activating immune systems as a part of cancer treatment is one of the most promising new developments in combating cancer. Joining Dr. Urba will be Dr. Bryan Bell who will convey how his team is enhancing oral, head and neck cancer treatment through multidisciplinary care. Drs. Urba and Bell are both with Providence Cancer Center.
May 17, 2011 – 7:00 PM – ORTHOPEDICS AND REHABILITATION
On May 17th, attendees will get to hear from Merritt Paulson, owner of the Portland Timbers, and Doctors Jonathan Greenleaf, Richard Edelson and Kevin Murphy, Orthopedic surgeons specializing in sports medicine at the new world-class Providence Sports Care Center at Jeld-Wen Field. Dr. Greenleaf is a team physician for the Portland Timbers.
May 24, 2011 – 7:00 PM – DIET AND HEART HEALTH
Closing the event on May 24th is Doctor James Beckerman, leading Cardiologist and author of “The Flex Diet”, a new book that helps readers design their own approach to wellness, weight loss, and heart health. Dr Beckerman was recently seen on the Today show and will be signing copies of his book for attendees at the Speaker Series. His book will be available for purchase at the event, with a portion of proceeds to benefit the Lake Oswego Adult Center Foundation. Dr. Beckerman is also the team cardiologist for the Timbers.
The Speaker Series is being held in conjunction with an art show presented by Medline of 60 paintings made by survivors and those affected by breast cancer from around the world. The art show opens on May 9th and closes on May 24th. Click here for more information on this exhibit.
The entire event promises to be a highly informative and enjoyable evening for attendees. All programs will begin at 7:00 pm with an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of the speakers. Attendees are encouraged to get their free tickets early as the events will likely fill up quickly. A reception, hosted by The Bank of Oswego, follows each lecture.
