Lakewood Center Entryway Gallery Features Two Popular Local Artists

Hoberg-Three-Nests-Etching.jpgPrintmaker Jani Hoberg uses the Renaissance era process Intaglio to create beautiful images with attention to line quality, balance and composition. Drawing on a grounded copper plate which is placed in acid, infused with ink and put through a hand run printing press creates the work on paper. Jani is inspired by the immediate world around her.

A graduate of the University of Oregon with a M.F.A in Printmaking, Hoberg is a member of the University of Oregon Advisory Board to the Art and Architecture School, and the Los Angeles Printmaking Society. Her work is found in collections at the University of Oregon, the Gilkey Print Collection at the Portland Art Museum and the Lessedra Gallery Collection in Sophia, Bulgaria. Currently her work can be seen at the Attic Gallery, the NW Prints Council and Portland Art Museum Rental Sales Gallery. Hoberg’s work will be exhibited at the LOCAL 14 show this October and in the Holiday Gallery at the 510 Museum & ARTspace with the Arts Council of Lake Oswego.

Nelson-Allium.jpgPhotographer Loren Nelson uses frosted glass to compose graceful film photographs in natural and urban settings. Often inspired when working in the garden or walking his dog, Nelson does not mind getting his knees dirty in order to capture botanicals, landscapes and seascapes out in nature rather than in a studio. Using a traditional darkroom, he transfers film to limited edition, selenium-toned, silver gelatin prints.

Nelson’s photographs are in numerous public and private collections, including at Oregon State University, the Portland Art Museum in Portland and the Portland Visual Chronicle. He currently serves on the board of the Portland Photographer’s Forum and has been published in both

Shots Magazine and Black and White Magazine. Nelson has also exhibited pieces at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, and at the Architectural Heritage Center in Portland. Nelson is represented by the Wall Space Gallery in Santa Barbara, California and Seattle, Washington, the Art Elements Gallery in Newberg, Oregon and by the Portland Art Museum Rental Sales Gallery in Portland. Nelson’s work can be found at the Holiday Gallery at the 510 Museum & ARTspace with the Arts Council of Lake Oswego this November and December.
