Ed_Wilson-color.jpgMark your calendar now for Aug. 23, the date of Lakewood Bandstand, a 1950s sock hop themed fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and Lakewood Center for the Arts. The event is a dance competition and takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. at Lakewood Center, 368 S. State St. in Lake Oswego.

Special thanks to our title sponsor: First Republic Bank.

“The competitors are paired up with Step It Up professionals,” Kristy Higgins, owner of Step It Up Studios, said. She has donated ten lessons to each “star,” or competitor, to prepare for the event. The stars include Lake Oswego Mayor Kent Studebaker, Lake Oswego Fire Chief Ed Wilson, Mark Birge, Tenley Webb, Bob Barman, Carol Winston, Samantha Richardson, Kelly Giampa, Claire Sarnowski, and Paul & Teri Graham.

“The audience are the judges, based on their bids for the dancers,” Higgins said. “The star that raises the most funds wins the competition. The music will be provided by Left Coast Jazz.”

The event is co-chaired by Kristy Higgins of Step it Up Studios and Fred Baldwin board member at Lakewood Center for the Arts. Tickets are $150 each and includes wine selections from World Class Wines, beer by Stickmen Brewery, beverages, hors d’oeuvres by Blue Star Lounge and other local restaurants, and desserts will be by Kyra’s Bake Shop.

A silent auction will also be held at the event. Just a few tickets remain for this star-studded event. Call 503-635-6338.
