On November 19th, the Side Door Stage at Lakewood was transformed into a space of courage, creativity, and pure magic as six incredible students showcased their original songs in the pilot workshop of You Are The Song!
Over the past seven weeks, these brave students embarked on an extraordinary journey of self-expression and artistry. Guided by the vision of Stephanie Schneiderman, this 8-week songwriting experience walked them through every step of the creative process—from crafting lyrics and composing melodies to arranging, recording, and performing their own songs. Accessible to musicians and non-musicians alike, the program focuses on fostering courage, self-discovery, and the power of trusting your unique voice as a songwriter.
What made the evening even more special was the vulnerability and support the students demonstrated throughout the program. Watching them cheer each other on and grow together as artists was a testament to the transformative power of music.
As Schneiderman puts it, “The goal is to reveal yourself to yourself—in a song.” And reveal they did! Each performance was a window into their hearts, a celebration of their individuality, and a reminder of the magic that happens when creativity meets bravery.
Congratulations to all the participants for their outstanding work. You’ve set the bar high for future seasons of You Are The Song!
