After Hours Film Fest

June 20, 6:30–8:00pm

Catch the Oregon premiere of Slide, Plympton’s newest animated feature about a slide guitar–slinging cowboy in a corrupt 1940s logging town.

Bonus: stick around for a late-night lineup of award-winning shorts.
Rated R for Revolutionary & Raunchy. Booze served.

This exclusive exhibit showcases 20 original drawings and animation cells selected directly from Plympton’s New York studio. The collection spans Plympton’s remarkable career: from his early MTV Liquid Television shorts to his recent feature Slide, and even includes a rare storyboard from a never-aired Simpsons couch gag.

A proud Oregon City native, Plympton’s path took him from Portland State to New York’s School of Visual Arts, where he launched a prolific career in editorial illustration, political cartoons, and—eventually—independent animation. He famously hand-draws every frame of his films (over 30,000 per feature!) and maintains full creative control by funding all his projects himself.

This exhibit gives an up-close look at the mind behind the madness. Accompanying videos will feature curator insights and behind-the-scenes conversations with Plympton about his tools, techniques, and storytelling style.
