2022 Lake Oswego Reads Selection
The Lake Oswego Public Library has selected C Pam Zhang’s 2020 debut novel How Much of These Hills Is Gold for its award-winning citywide reading program, at the recommendation of the Lake Oswego Reads Steering Committee.

The novel crafts a reimagined American West, filled with magic and myth, at the height of America’s iconic Gold Rush. Two Chinese American siblings head into the wilderness after their prospector father dies. On their journey the narrative challenges its characters and us to accept mystery and question ‘What makes a home a home?’

About the Author: Born in Beijing, C Pam Zhang is mostly an artifact of the United States. She is the author of How Much of These Hills Is Gold, winner of the Academy of Arts and Letters Rosenthal Award and the Asian/Pacific Award for Literature; nominated for the Booker Prize; and a finalist for the PEN/Hemingway Award and a Lambda Literary Award. Zhang’s writing appears in Best American Short Stories, The Cut, McSweeney’s Quarterly, The New Yorker, and The New York Times. She is a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 Honoree.

Movie Screening: Curtain Up!
Sunday, April 3, 2022 – 7:00 pm to 8:45 pm

Celebrating 17 Years of Asian American Indie Films Curtain Up! It’s showtime at PS124, an elementary school in New York’s Chinatown, where students in the theater club are working on this season’s production of Frozen the Musical. Off stage, they navigate school, family expectations, and their own identities. As opening night and graduation loom, students find their voices through rehearsals and the continued support of teachers, family, and one another. Best Feature Documentary award at DisOrient 2021 as well as the Audience Choice Award for Feature Documentary, the running time is 1:08:44 followed by a pre-recorded Q&A with filmmakers.

Lake Oswego Reads Art Show
Monday, April 4, 2022 – 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Join artists for a memorable evening as they explain the art they created after reading, How Much of These Hills Is Gold. The artwork will be displayed throughout April at the Lakewood Center for the Arts. Artists include Stuart Adams, Bill Baily, Mary Burgess, Leslie Cheney-Parr, Susie Cowan, Bonnie Garlington, Vicki Green, Dave Haslett, Jani Hoberg, Dyanne Locati, Kara Pilcher, Jan Rimerman, Leanne Streit, Debby Neely, Beth Verheyden, Lisa Wiser, Natalie Wood, Jim Wylder, and Beth Yazhari.
