Windsor Castle, and an excursion to Shakespeare’s birthplace,
Stratford-upon-Avon, make this trip a truly unforgettable experience.

Saturday
April 24
In
the late afternoon you will depart from Portland on United Airlines via San
Francisco on your overnight flight to London.

Sunday
April 25
Arrival
at London’s Heathrow Airport in the morning. Transfer by coach to the
first-class Millennium Gloucester Hotel, located just a few blocks from Hyde
Park and Kensington Gardens. After check-in, some refreshing tea and biscuits,
and a few hours for relaxing. In the afternoon you will be taken on a private
coach tour of London. The evening will be free.

Monday
April 26
In
the morning, you will divide into small touring groups of 10 and meet with your
guides for your own personalized tour of London. Some of the sights today might
be St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, followed by a
tour of the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, newly recreated on its original site
along the River Thames. Afterwards, you can wander in and out of the adjacent
streets and lanes and get a feeling for the way London used to be in times gone
by. Tonight, you will be seeing the world premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s
sequel to Phantom of the Opera, LOVE NEVER DIES.

Tuesday
April 27
After
meeting with your guides again, you’re off to the changing of the guard at
Buckingham Palace. It’s then a short walk to Westminster Abbey, Houses of
Parliament and Trafalgar Square. The perfect place for lunch is Covent Garden,
once the site of London’s main flower, fruit and produce market and now dominated
by shopping, street performers and entertainment, flagship fashion stores,
craft markets, and diverse bars, restaurants and cafes. In the afternoon, a
backstage tour of the Royal National Theatre is scheduled followed by a walking
tour of the West End Theatre District. Your show tonight will be a new
production at the Royal National Theatre. (TBA)

Wednesday
April 28
In
the morning, it’s off to Stratford-upon-Avon, home of William Shakespeare.
After passing through the beautiful scenery just outside of London, you will
immediately feel how England’s countryside is different from the hectic pace of
its capital. Along with time to explore this beautiful historic town, there
will be guided walking tours visiting a number of the historic Shakespeare Trust
Properties including Shakespeare’s birthplace, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and
Stratford’s secluded and quiet church. You will arrive back to London in the
early evening. The remainder of your evening
is free.

Thursday
April 29
A
visit to Windsor Castle is scheduled for today. Located just outside London,
Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world. It is the Queen’s
official residence and was built by William the Conqueror in 1066 after his
victory at the battle of Hastings. The castle was closed to visitors after the
devastating fire of 1992. After a $63 million renovation, it re-opened in 1997.
The damaged rooms gleam with gold gilt, sparkling chandeliers and silk damask
wall coverings; and more parts of the castle are now open to the public than
before the blaze. Viewing this magnificent castle will be quite a treat.
Tonight’s production will be a new production on the West End. (TBA)

Friday
April 30
Today
can be set aside for some of London’s wonderful museums and shops. Visit the
British Museum’s Egyptian collection, the new "Tate Modern" along the Thames,
the Victoria & Albert Museum’s grand costume section, or the new museum of
wine, Vinopolis. If your passion is shopping, you couldn’t have chosen a better
place with London’s famous stores like Harrods, Liberty House, Harvey Nichols
and Selfridges, you will certainly get a taste of what British shopping is
like. Upon returning to the hotel, afternoon tea will be served along with a
theatre discussion by a leading theatre personality. Tonight, your evening is
free.
