Legendary comedienne and Ziegfeld star Fanny Brice (Melissa Gale) has all the qualities to become Broadway’s next big star: the voice, the charm, and plenty of chutzpah. But does she have “the look”? This heartfelt musical comedy traces her unlikely rise to fame with the Ziegfeld Follies and her tumultuous romantic relationship with gambler Nick Arnstein (Nick Serrone). Featuring one of the greatest musical scores of all time, Funny Girl includes timeless classics like “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” “People,” and much more.

Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 PM, Sundays at 2:00 PM, one Saturday (May 23) at 2:00 PM, and two Wednesday shows (May 13 and 27) at 7:30 PM. Lakewood Theatre Company has an intimate 220-seat theatre located at the Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.
Special note: On Wednesdays, May 13 and May 27, the theatre continues its Wine or Whiskey on Wednesday program, called WOW: 25-35. For audience members aged 35 or under, tickets are $30 each. The Story: Funny Girl is the semi-autobiographical tale of Fanny Brice’s (Melissa Gale) meteoric rise to fame and her tumultuous relationship with Nick Arnstein (Nick Serrone), a wealthy and charming gambler. From her beginnings as an awkward Brooklyn teen talking her way into show business to becoming the toast of New York and the unraveling of her personal life, Funny Girl is a striking, richly told tour de force about one of Broadway’s biggest stars. The endearing, emotional musical features a lineup of great tunes performed through Bob Merrill and Jule Styne’s unforgettable score, which includes “People,” “Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “I’m the Greatest Star,” “The Music That Makes Me Dance,” and “You Are Woman, I Am Man.”
The talented ensemble, playing multiple roles, features Margo Schembre, Ed Pierce, Riley Parham, Jody Allen, Hillary Chapman, Emily Smith, Melissa M.
