Entryway Gallery Jan 11 – Feb. 17, 2013: Stop by Lakewood and enjoy the colorful show of Sally Bills Bailey and Kathy Martin now on display at Lakewood Center for the Arts. These award winning artists specialize in shape and color. Both of them are intense travelers and reveal the world in their individual interpretations in paint and in textiles. Take some time to fall into the magic of Sally Bills Bailey and Kathy Martin.

Living at the foot of Mt. Hood, Sally Bills Bailey’s paintings reflect her love of mountains, snow, trees and wilderness. Her use of strong color and bold shapes are a result of the winters she now spends in Arizona.
Sally has taught children and adults and now concentrates on watercolor and acrylic painting. She has received many awards for her work and is a signature member of both the National Watercolor Society and the Northwest Watercolor Society and is a platinum member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon. She is a member of the Buffalo Grass Society, Scottsdale Artists League, Arizona Watercolor Association & Arizona Artists Alliance. Her paintings are shown at the Portland Museum Rental  Sales Gallery, Portland, OR, Xanadu Gallery, Scottsdale, AZ, AZ Artists Alliance Gallery, Scottsdale, AZ, Columbia Center for the Arts, Hood River, OR, and at Timberline Lodge, Government Camp, OR. Her work illustrates two popular books: A Bird’s Eye View of Hood River Valley and A Bird’s Eye View of Timberline Lodge.

Kathy Martin began to create textile wall hangings in an art quilt format in the 1980s, starting out using traditional quilt assembly techniques. Challenging herself to work with diverse art supplies, her artwork gradually evolved into use of a combination of surface design techniques involving acrylic paint, photos, found objects, stitchery, and beadwork, etc., to initiate a mixed media and collage design approach.

Martin was commissioned by Lake Oswego Mayor Judie Hammerstad to create a four panel wall hanging entitled “Clackamas County—Our Legacy to Cherish,” now on permanent display in the lobby of the Clackamas County Public Services Building.

Visiting family in Japan and collecting vintage silk inspired the wall hanging that received the Best of Show award at the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts. This honor prompted Kathy Martin to continue to create textile wall hangings making use of collected textiles from her travels.
