COVID-19 Update on theatre performances and classes at Lakewood

09/07/2021

Lakewood is monitoring COVID-19 and will provide periodic updates that affect performances, events, and classes at Lakewood.

COVID-19 Update

Updated September 7, 2021

We're committed to the health and safety of ALL members of our community—theatre employees, artists, production staff, cast, young performers, and audience members.

Our contractual obligations with Actors' Equity Association and other entities require us to follow the following safety precautions for us to have audience and participants into our building. We will update this page as conditions change! To ensure the safety of everyone in the theatre, the following policies will be in place:

MASKS REQUIRED INDOORS AND OUTDOORS
Everyone must wear acceptable face coverings at all times, including during the show, except while actively eating or drinking in designated locations. All face coverings must cover the nose and mouth and comply with the CDC guidelines for acceptable face coverings.

VACCINATIONS REQUIRED
Guests 12 years of age and older must provide proof of full vaccination in order to attend an in-person indoor performance. Proof of vaccination must be presented by showing your vaccination card in physical form or as a photo on your phone. “Fully vaccinated” means the performance date you are attending must be:

  •      at least 14 days after your second dose of an FDA or WHO authorized two-dose COVID-19 vaccine, or
  •      at least 14 days after your single dose of an FDA or WHO authorized single dose COVID-19 vaccine.

CHILDREN UNDER 12 ATTENDING IN-PERSON SHOWS AND CLASSES
Unvaccinated children under 12 years of age may attend in-person shows and classes on a continuing basis as long as their parent or guardian is fully vaccinated. Depending on the class activity, masks are to be worn throughout the class at the discretion of the instructor. If the student exhibits any symptoms, we ask them to stay home and get tested for COVID-19 before returning to class.

OTHER EXCEPTIONS
People with a medical condition or closely held religious belief that prevents vaccination must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test in one of the following ways to see a performance:

  •      negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance, or
  •      negative COVID-19 rapid antigen test taken within 6 hours of the performance.

Guests may present proof of vaccination or a negative test on paper or a smartphone. Guests under 12 must be accompanied by an adult who meets the above requirements.

Guests who do not comply with these protocols will be denied entry or asked to leave the theatre.

AIR FILTRATION
Lakewood has installed a new UV-C air purification system to continuously sanitize the theatre and rooms at Lakewood, courtesy of Bill and Barbara Warner and Lynda O’Neill, John L. Scott Real Estate. In addition, all ventilation systems have been reviewed and filtration has been upgraded to MERV 13. The systems continue to be regularly cleaned and maintained.

CLEANING
Before each performance, high touch surfaces in both audience spaces and backstage will be cleaned in accordance with CDC recommendations.

BUY WITH CONFIDENCE!
Most of our shows have flexible ticket exchange and refund policies, some up to two hours before the performance. To stay up to date with our policies as they conform to changing health issues, follow Lakewood on Facebook and Twitter. We will work with you in whatever way for you to enjoy our programs.

By purchasing tickets and attending a show or class at Lakewood Center for the Arts, you agree to follow these guidelines and the full policy measures laid out above. Please note: all policies are subject to change at Lakewood's sole discretion and without notice. We look forward to seeing you soon!

OUR GOAL IS TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFE - THANK YOU FOR COMPLYING!

April 2021:

At Lakewood, we are monitoring the COVID-19 situation closely and implementing our own measures to help keep the community safe - see our updates below. We understand that more cases in the US and our region should be expected.

We will also update our site at this news blog to alert you of any changes, rescheduling or cancellations.

LAKEWOOD BUILDING IS CLOSED UNTIL EXECUTIVE ORDER IS LIFTED

Our building is now closed to visitors and we are reducing our work hours. Guest programs cannot resume until Clackamas County enters Phase 2. Please note, some events are not sanctioned until we enter Phase 3. In the meantime, see our events page for socially distant outdoor activities which are permitted.

Some of our staff are telecommuting and with the expected volume of emails it may take us 3-5 business days to respond, but rest assured that we will get back to you. Our shows may be postponed or canceled for now, but our staff is here for you. See below for info on upcoming events. If your question is not answered please Again, it may take us a few days for us to reply. We are working with reduced staff and have set up a remote box office.

We are following the Governor's Executive Order and awaiting updates for the scheduling of future shows. See below for ticketing updates. THANK YOU for your kind support!

Please consider donating your tickets back to the theatre. As you can imagine, it is extremely difficult to cancel performances. Your support during this time of uncertainty allows organizations like ours to remain a vibrant part of our community.

Thank you for your continued support. Even as we social distance, we are working through this with you and our incredible visual and performing artists.

In the meantime, we hope you’ll join us for some of our exciting COVID-19 compliant events including intimate art shows, cabarets on the Lakewood lawn, and a special holiday review.

3/27/2020

After a thorough evaluation and thoughtful deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to postpone THE ODD COUPLE, for the time being, and resume performances if we are given permission to gather again in late April or May. This, however, is a week by week decision.

We have also decided it is best to cancel the next production in our lineup, FUNNY GIRL. This decision pains us greatly as we have artists wanting to continue but they are unable to meet and rehearse. We hope we can stage that show in the future but that is an option for another time.
We will work, however, to raise the curtain on a new, boundary-pushing season in the summer and or fall.

We don’t know how to express our thanks for the undaunted dedication of our patrons, like you, who have helped us to focus on our mission and commit ourselves to what the future holds.

If you have tickets for any canceled performances, please consider donating their value, or even making an extra donation to ensure Lakewood is able to remain resilient. if you are donating your tickets please reply to the link listed. If you requesting something different please wait 5-7 days as we are now working with reduced staff and relocating to a remote box office. We hope you will consider a donation so we can remain viable.

March 20, 2020

It’s been a few days since our last communication with our patrons. We’re doing our best to find a way for you to see our productions.

With the latest update from the Governor, it is clear that we will be unable to have any performances of The Odd Couple before its original closing date of April 12.

One option we are exploring is extending performances in late April if restrictions are lifted. Another option is streaming the production to ticket buyers if royalty holders will allow. This option would only be available for a limited time if permission is granted. Ticket buyers who have given us their emails will receive a separate notice if either option becomes available.

Our building is now closed to visitors and we are reducing our work hours. Some of our staff is telecommuting and with the expected volume of emails it may take us 3-5 business days to respond, but rest assured that we will get back to you. Our shows may be canceled for now, but our staff is here for you.

All public events and classes at Lakewood are canceled through April 17. We are awaiting restriction updates as to our scheduling of rehearsals for future shows.

In addition, here are a few updates for you:

  • Performances of The Odd Couple through April 12 are canceled. We are exploring options to perform later in April if we are allowed.
  • March 19: Scholarship Application Deadline for High School Students in Lake Oswego & West Linn has been postponed until Monday, April 20.
  • March 23 & 30 Lake Oswego Rotary luncheons are canceled.
  • March 24: An Evening with Adam Klugman has been postponed. A new date is still to be decided.
  • March 30 - April 4: The annual Clothing Sale is canceled. We will look to reschedule in the fall.
  • April 8: A Fine Romance featuring Norman Wilson & Courtney Freed has been canceled. A new date is being considered.
  • April 17-18: performances of I Can Get It For You Wholesale are postponed until restrictions are lifted. A new performance date will be announced when available.
  • April 24-26: Lake Area Artists art show has been postponed. Look to their website for a rescheduled date. https://lakeareaartists.com/

We hope you will consider exchanging or donating the cost of your ticket back to Lakewood. This helps support us as an arts nonprofit during this challenging time as we navigate the significant, ongoing impact of the COVID-19 situation.

For ticket holders the following options are available for you:

  • Opt in to see an archive video production of The Odd Couple. Ticket buyers who have given us their emails will receive a separate email if/when permission is granted to us.
  • Exchange your ticket(s) for a voucher that can be used within one year of issue date.
  • Donate your tickets, and receive a tax deduction for the total ticket value.
  • Receive a refund for the value of the ticket(s).

All requests for ticket donations, exchanges, gift certificates, and refunds must be received by June 30, 2020.

For assistance, please email us at

Please remember our office is on a reduced schedule and may be working remotely. We will do our best to get back to you as quickly as we can.

We will re-open as soon as circumstances permit, and we look forward to once again being the place where our community, far and wide, can come together to experience live performance, to view an exhibition, or to learn a new skill. Thank you for all of your past and ongoing support - we can't do this without you.

Lastly, please take care of yourselves, your families, and your neighbors. Working together, we will get through this.

We hope to see you soon

Thursday, March 12, 2020

Last night, Gov. Kate Brown announced that all gatherings of more than 250 people in Oregon will be canceled for the next four weeks in an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The Lakewood Center for the Arts will remain open and shows will continue as scheduled until further notice. Our house size is under the cap and we will continue to limit admissions. While we are not restricted under that ban, we are doing everything we can to make our theatre a safe place for our patrons, staff, actors and creative teams.

  • As always, all active use surfaces – box office computers and counters, concessions area, bathrooms, water stations etc. – are sanitized daily with alcohol and bleach, as are our reusable concessions containers, coffee pots and carafes.
  • Additional hand sanitizer has been placed around the theatre and office spaces, reminders to wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or more are at every sink.
  • Staff members are encouraged to work from home if they feel unwell and are compensated for their time if they take sick leave.
  • In addition, The Lakewood Theatre Company will limit ticket sales to 85% of its capacity to allow for space between patrons.

We will continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 situation closely, and we will be following the protocols recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and Oregon Health Authority (OHA) to keep our community safe.

If you feel unwell, we ask that you stay at home. We will happily exchange your tickets for a future performance. Or if you prefer, you can donate them back to the theatre to help us out and you will receive a tax receipt for your donation. As always, we appreciate your support and understanding.

When you do attend a performance or event, please remember to:

  • Bring your own reusable container to use for concessions if you do not wish to use ours.
  • Take your time at the sinks in our bathroom. It’s a pleasant space. Soak it in while you soap your hands for at least 20 seconds. We don’t mind if you sing out loud while you do.
  • Keep that hug to yourself. There’s a lot of love to be felt during times of stress, but we ask that you wave or wink a hello instead of shake hands or embrace (jazz hands are also acceptable).
  • We understand it is also allergy season. If you do have to cough or sneeze, please do so into your elbow.
  • And, it must be said again and again and again - wash your hands with soap and water. This is still the best-known way to prevent the spread of this virus.

Stay well and take care!

We look forward to seeing you at the Lakewood Center for the Arts. The Odd Couple continues tonight at 7:30 PM.
