Lakewood Theatre Company will be having open auditions to complete the casting for DOUBT: A PARABLE  Saturday, August 27, and Sunday, August 28, 2022. Actors may sign up for auditions online beginning August 1st

Audition Dates: Saturday, August 27 & Sunday, August 28, 2022 by appointment.

Callbacks, if needed, will be held at the director's discretion.  

Location: Lakewood Theatre Company 368 S. State Street, Lake Oswego, OR 97034.

DOUBT: A PARABLE, by John Patrick Shanley will be directed by Antonio Sonera.

Three roles are open, and all receive remuneration. Lakewood encourages diversity in casting and the directing team is strongly seeking artists of all races, cultural backgrounds, abilities, body types, and gender identities to audition for roles.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS - MATERIALS NEEDED

  • Please secure an audition appointment online and list all conflicts between January 30 – April 8, 2023.
  • Please email a resume and headshot to and bring both to your audition appointment. In your email to please notate the show title DOUBT in the subject line). Callbacks will be held at the director's discretion. Conflicts not listed at the time of the audition may not be honored.
  • Each 1-hour audition appointment will provide 6 actors to sign up per time slot to read together as a group.
        •    Auditions will consist of a read from the script. Sides are available below on this page.
        •    Actors will be asked to complete an online audition form, including any rehearsal or performance conflicts and vaccination status.
        •    Actors will need to show proof of vaccination when arriving for the audition.


Rehearsals: Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on January 30, 2023. Rehearsals will be Monday through Thursday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
 
Performance Schedule: Doubt: A Parable begins March 3, 2023, and continues through April 8, 2023. Performances are Thurs-Sat at 7:30 PM, Sundays, at 2:00 PM, one Saturday at 2:00 PM, and two Wednesday performances at 7:30 PM. Lakewood Theatre Company features an intimate 220-seat theatre located at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.

About the Play
Doubt, A Parable is a 2004 play by John Patrick Shanley. Originally staged off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club on November 23, 2004, the production transferred to the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway in March 2005 and closed on July 2, 2006, after 525 performances and 25 previews. The play won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play. The play was adapted as a film, Doubt (2008). It starred Meryl Streep as Sister Aloysius and Philip Seymour Hoffman as Father Flynn. It was nominated for several Academy Awards.

The Story
The story takes place in 1964 in a Catholic school in the Bronx, New York. It begins when uncertainty strikes Sister James, a young sister who recently started teaching at the school. She is concerned that the relationship between a priest, Father Flynn, and a student may have become inappropriate and confides this fear to the principal, Sister Aloysius. Learning this concern, Sister Aloysius becomes determined to find out the truth about what happened and to protect the boy.

Roles Available

Father Flynn: Lead, Male, 30-60 From a working-class background; articulate and personable; a Catholic priest at St. Nicholas. He is progressive and friendly—he prides himself on being approachable and amiable with the students at the parish.

Sister James: Supporting, Female, 21-35 A member of the Sisters of Charity in the Bronx and a new teacher at St. Nicholas. Young and idealistic, she is passionate about teaching.

Ms. Muller: Supporting, Female, 35-50 An African American woman; working class, the mother of Donald Muller, a new student at St. Nicholas and its first African American student.
