While practicing through games, play, art, music, and dance, students will discover their inner creativity. Class will be held in the ballet studio which is designed for easy distance awareness. Students will conclude the Fall session with a performance/demo to be performed on the last day of class. Students will be having fun improvising, creating, and playing together each class day.

Each day, campers will meet outside on the front deck to check-in. Once everyone arrives the class will go down to the studio together as a group, limiting hallway crowding. At the end of the day, this will be the same protocol. Remember to bring a snack and get ready to have a wonderful time.

Rachael Himsel holds a BA in Music from DePauw University and a masters in art education from Indiana University. She has worked as a museum educator as well as education director at nonprofit theatre companies. She has spent many years creating new theatre pieces with youth ages 4 – 18 years old. She decided to start her own company, CREATIVE UNIVERSE, to provide an opportunity for students to learn new techniques and skills (the most important of which are TEAMWORK and COMMUNICATION!), while also employing a project-based approach to learning. This means that students’ interests are heard and incorporated into the curriculum in a way that is empowering and cooperative between students and instructors. After visiting the world-renowned Reggio Emilia schools in Italy, Rachael adopted the Reggio Emilia motto as her own: NOTHING WITHOUT JOY!

Tuesdays, Sept 12- Dec 5 (11 classes)

Ages 4-7
Instructor: Rachael Himsel
Tuition: $165

Showcase at 4:30 PM on Tuesday November 28

Creative Universe for Kids combines the fun of theatre improv games with lots of activities to make music and visual art together – and more. Creative Universe classes are all process-based and fun! Our final show will be one part art show, one part play or musical – depending on what the kids want to create! No right or wrong in this class, just a safe, fun space to create!

Thursdays, September 14 – November 30 (11 classes)
4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Ages 14-18
Instructor: Rachael Himsel
Tuition: $165

Showcase at 4:30 PM on Tuesday November 30

In this class, students will learn basics of improv, acting, and writing / storytelling. They will have a choice of writing their own piece or doing improv with the group. This is a great class for teens who want to create in a safe, encouraging environment.

Wednesdays, Sept 13 – November 29 (11 classes)
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
For Caregivers and 2-3 year olds (caregivers attend with the child)
Instructor: Rachael Himsel
Tuition: $165

This is a great way to introduce basics of music and storytelling to young children. Caregivers / parents will learn a variety of musical games, songs, and theatre games that can be played at home or in the car! Children exposed to music and art at a young age often find it easier to learn other skills like reading and writing, which we will also be encouraging. Part of this time will be focused on free play, which allows caregivers the chance to connect with each other – a great way to meet other people with kids your age! This class will be a safe, fun place to learn and grow at your own pace.

FALL Ballet with Eve Brindis

We are very excited to announce that Eve Brindis will be joining our dance staff. Eve is a very popular dance educator and choreographer. She teaches youth and adult dance classes in ballet and various styles for Spotlight Musical Theatre Academy, Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation and local schools and dance studios. Her choreography has most recently been seen in productions of The Little Mermaid, Legally Blonde JR., Bring It On and Lakewood’s Elf JR. and Shrek JR. She received her BA from Linfield College.

Ballet classes are cumulative, new students wishing to perform in our annual winter and spring performances, are required to enroll during the Fall and continue through Spring term. This allows dancers the opportunity to learn and practice ballet technique so that they are confident to perform by Spring term. Classes are pro rated if you begin after the first week of the session.

A minimum of 3 students (levels 1-3) and 5 students (PreBallet 1 & 2) per class must be enrolled in order for a class to run**
